Dundee, Scotland’s fourth largest city, implemented Warp-It in October 2013. Led by Bryan Harris, Sustainability Manager, the council took a methodical, data-driven approach with a phased rollout coordinated by a cross-department group spanning Property, Waste, Procurement, IT, and Sustainability teams.
Dundee’s cross-department working group ensured buy-in from every key function. Property teams identified surplus items during office moves, Waste teams tracked diversion metrics, Procurement embedded reuse into purchasing policies, IT managed system access, and Sustainability coordinated reporting.
This collaborative approach meant the platform was adopted quickly and comprehensively, with data collection built in from day one to demonstrate impact to senior leadership.

Within six months, Dundee achieved over £100,000 in total savings, including £60,000 in internal savings alone. The programme diverted 20 tonnes of waste from landfill and avoided 70 tonnes of CO2 emissions.
The council’s data-driven approach and cross-departmental collaboration was recognised with the Green Apple Award for Scotland, validating their methodical rollout strategy as a model for other local authorities.
